In commemoration of Martin Luther King Day, see this 1967 mystery drama which was nominated for 7 Academy Awards. Watch the trailer here. When a wealthy visitor to a small Mississippi town is found murdered, suspicion quickly centers on a black Philadelphia police detective (Sidney Poitier) who is just passing through. The white police chief (Rod Steiger) soon learns that Poitier's character is an expert homicide detective and enlists him to help solve the case. Lee Grant and Warren Oates round out the cast, with music by Quincy Jones. Classic Film Series organizer, Lenny Barham, will provide commentary and insights.
